My name is Alex Respess and you may or may not know me from ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. In the span if one year I lost 216 pounds. Going from 459 pounds and looking like a giant marshmallow with Bieber hair to 243 pounds was an amazing journey. It was a journey that transformed me physically, mentally, and emotionally. I want to take everything I learned in the past year from one of my very best friends, Chris Powell, and the knowledge I am gaining in my quest to become a certified personal trainer and use it to help others who are ready to transform their lives.

If there’s anything else y’all would like to know just ask.

  1. You have inspired many, many people, including myself to keep going on this journey, that it CAN be done. I’m so glad that your working on becoming a certified personal trainer, its great that your going to share the wisdom and knowledge you’ve picked up on your own journey with Chris. Good luck in everything you do, and by the way.. you absolutely look as fantastic as I’m sure you feel. :)

  2. I have also been on a weight loss journey of my own and on my own. I only wish I had someone like Chris. But just because I don’t have anyone with me doesn’t mean I can’t do it. We all have the strength to change our lives one day, one Moment at a time. So far I’ve lost about 80 pounds with Weight Watchers and walking. About 40 more pounds to goal and I WILL get there.
Like you, I want to share what I’ve been learning. I have gone back to school to be a Personal Trainer. I will be taking my Certification Exam next June. People like us can change the world one person at a time.
    Good luck with your studies.

    • OMG! Julie your story sounds soo much like my story. I too have lost 80 pounds on my own and need about 40 more to go! I am kinda plateauing right now. I too have considered going back to school to be personal trainer, how did you go about doing that? I had my cousin as a power partner for the initial weight loss but she had a lot less to lose than me and hit her goal faster. So I am now am too looking for a power partner until I hit my goal. Good luck on continued journey.

Alex please share your secrets to pushing through diet and exercise on your own! Thanks for your inspiration.

      • There are so many more who also share your story. I checked into the personal Trainer program at my local 2 year college. ACE partners with several colleges. Just Google them and you can find more information. Right now I’m taking classes on group fitness instructor and more on Personal training too.
To blast though these plateus, I’ve been sticking close to my weight watchers and changed up my work out. Instead of just walking, I added eliptical and rowing. Interval training really helps kick off those pounds too. I just finished a book I found really inspirational by Jillian Michaels called Unlimited. I also really like Success Principles. It’s long, but choked full of grerat information. Most important is to Never ever give up. We can do it together.

  3. Alex I recently watched your episode on ABC’s Extreme Makeover:Weight Loss Edition. I am inspired. I want to be a surrogate mom, but in order for me to do so, I need to lose like 90lbs. I was wondering if you had any tips that I could use to help lose the weight? Losing this 90lbs wont just be for me, it’ll also be for my kids, I havent really been able to play with them as much as I use to. I want to play with my kids again and be completely happy with the way I look and feel. Thank you.

  4. Wait- your being a CPT as well. I’ve been saying this people who were once overweight make the best trainers. We have a level of understanding that really make people feel comfortable with us. If you dont mind me asking What certification are you going for?
